A lot of thought has been put into getting the reader/painter into a position to be able to create the artwork in the book with as little fuss as possible, for example using starter set of gouache paints & suggesting what paint brushes are needed, etc.

Myself, 7 year old & 5 year old daughters all do these painting together, so they are great /5(). It tries to make painting simple and not complicated, would recommend as a 1st book to see if gouache paints are what you are looking for.

They seem like water colour paints to begin with and dry to a dry powdery finish and they are water soluble, gouache is supposed to be /5(37). Needing a change from watercolor painting, I decided to change to gouache, I ordered several books on the subject, and found Jeremy Ford;s book, The art of Gouache incredible.

I have learned so much about gouache medium, which will enable me to move fearlessly into this medium, revives my self confidence, and I am using this book as my manual/5(71).

It’s a good idea to begin with a few primary colors, plus tubes of black and white, so you can mix a range of hues.

To paint with gouache, lightly draw your design on the paper with a pencil, then squeeze out a small amount of each gouache color you want to use onto your palette.
